The geometric elements in Repeated Events Within the Same Context #2/3 phases are laid out gesturally, displaying the will and mind of the artist in its asymmetrical composition within the confines and geometric exigencies of the chosen material (graph paper). Such is an example of the personal nature of Le Va’s work; he stated about his works in the 1960s/1970s that “they were not a statement about materials or about a specific process. They were relative to time, place, and my physical activity.” The drawings, in short, are the horizon of his sculptural activity, revealing something of the predetermined—indeed, premeditated—nature of the event to be staged. This is especially true of his drawings on graph paper.
