In Stamping in the Studio, the camera records Nauman walking back and forth across his studio, creating an increasingly complex rhythm. The camera is inverted and takes a bird’s eye view of Nauman, alone, acting with no apparent motive aside from the purely aesthetic. Nauman moves diagonally and in spirals, engaging with the concept of space dedicated to artistic practice. The work recalls the broader rituals of artistic practice and questions the norms and constraints of the studio space – and if there are any at all. Has its own crt B&W monitor.
