In each shot of this video, Nauman lifts a T-Bar and redirects it within the space, picking it up and turning it over or shifting it left or right or flipping it. The camera has been turned ninety degrees to record Nauman posing with a t-shaped form that he constructed using black tape, a metal rod, and a steel rebar. The materiality of the T-Bar is emphasized in the beginning of the video, with a few close-up shots of the bar, in order to establish the physical qualities of the manipulated object. However, the inherently geometric qualities of the T-Bar are made secondary to Nauman’s gestures of manipulation and the focus with which he performs each action. Materials like the T-Bar that are associated with concrete buildings appear frequently in early Nauman sculptures, but in the context of this short film the almost cross shape of the bar and its Naumanesque proportions inevitable evokes the image of Christ bearing the cross. Has its own crt B&W monitor.
