Nauman’s drawing is related to his installation at Castelli Downtown where he presented a set of disorienting chambers of eccentric proportions. Moving through one room funneled into another, one passes through a yellow fluorescent atmosphere (the retina supplies the neutralizing lavender spurts) and then into a kind of boardwalk more or less enclosed by soundproof panels, in which the experience of sound is structured to become possibly more physically sensate or tangible on the viewer’s body. The drawing refers to the installation in the middle passage connecting the different chambers.
